L. Kaim   East Coast

I have been the sole proprietor and operator of Coeur d’Lion K9 Behavior Management since 1979. I have conducted group training classes for all breeds of dogs in a variety of locations throughout Southern Pennsylvania and Baltimore, Carroll and Harford Counties in Maryland for the last 20 years. I currently offer private training at my location for Maryland residents and residency boarding and training for Maryland, DC, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

I began working professionally with dogs as an assistant to several top trainers and Professional All-Breed Handlers in the late ‘70’s throughout the mid to late ‘80’s; groomed, trained and conditioned dogs to prepare them for conformation showing and completed Championship titles on many dogs of all breeds, including several of my own dogs. I have successfully finished Irish Setters, English Pointers and bred several German Shepherd Dogs that competed and finished in the AKC breed ring.

I have apprenticed with several top names in dogs, including Charlie Sharkady of Sun Valley Guard Dogs, Andy Luper of A Greater Phoenix Dog Training Academy and Donna Brimer of Talaria Kennels, circa 1979 to 1982; Eliot and Linda More of Severn Kennels and Karin Ashe of Scanpoint Kennels circa 1984 to 1987.

I have participated in workshops and seminars in a variety of dog training disciplines, including Bedrock Training with Applewoods Dog Training’s Margot Woods, Scent Detection with Randy Hare of Alpha K9 and worked with Pat Nolan of Ponderosa Kennels learning the nuances of field retriever training.

I have integrated the skills I have learned to influence positive changes in my clients’ dogs  through this desire to achieve understanding and practical experience across disciplines and methodology.

I developed and instituted a Behavior Counseling Outreach program for the Humane Society of Harford County in Maryland in 2003-05 for county residents offering proactive programs to educate owners which helped reduce the shelter’s owner surrender rate and recidivism rate of adopted shelter dogs. I also designed their original Dog Enrichment Program to not only enrich the lives of the shelter’s dogs during their stay there, but to encourage community participation in the safe and responsible care of the shelter’s dogs. I conducted training programs to assist their large, active volunteer force and shelter staff on appropriate handling and management of the dog population and conducted training seminars for volunteers to help  enhance the adoptability of otherwise un-adoptable or at-risk dogs,

I am currently assisting the Baltimore Humane Society with in-house temperament evaluations of their shelter population and we are undergoing negotiations to construct similar Outreach programs for their facility.

I enjoy a successful dog training business comprised mostly of pet dog owners with a variety of common behavior problems ranging from housebreaking to aggression. I continue to coach a small but loyal following of competitive obedience and conformation students who continue to achieve considerable success with their dogs in AKC events.
